MgTiO3 nanoplatelets were successfully synthesized by combining the sol-gel method with the molten salt method at low temperatures. The results show that the calcined process of the mixture sample (Mg-Ti gel and the eutectic salt NaCl-KCl at a molar ratio of 1:10) consists of a series of oxidation and combustion reactions in air. High purity MgTiO3 without other crystal phase can be obtained over 600 degrees C for 2 h. MgTiO3 synthesized at 700 and 800 degrees C is regular in shape with crystal size of about 200 nm in diameter and 50 nm in thickness. The present work offers us a new route to synthesize well-dispersed MgTiO3 nanoplatelets with regular crystal morphology. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
