The anisotropy of laser melting deposition additive manufacturing Ti-6.5Al-3.5Mo-1.5Zr-0.3Si was studied by microstructure observation and room tensile properties testing. The as-deposited sample exhibits a strong tensile anisotropy due to the columnar grains morphology and the strong texture of beta [001] parallel to the deposition direction. Annealing in the upper alpha + beta region has little effect on the grain morphology and the anisotropy. However, annealing in the single beta region transforms the grain morphology from columnar to equiaxed which substantially reduces the tensile anisotropy to a very low level. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd.
