This brief describes several ways in which a variation of the electrostatic generator known as doubler of electricity or Bennet's doubler can be used as a practical micropower generator and a battery charger. The device has a structure that can be constructed as a microelectromechanical system device powered by ambient vibration. A simple battery charger that does not require any control circuit for operation is detailed, and the inherent instability of the device is exploited to allow greater power output, with experimental results presented.
