The Brillouin shift variation caused by bending in a single-mode fiber was theoretically and experimentally studied. We show that the combined effect of optical field displacement and strain, induced by the bending, results in a blue-shift of the Brillouin frequency shift along the bent fiber, in a measure depending on the radius of curvature. The experiments confirm the theoretical results.
