This letter presents a new possible solution for realizing a symmetric dual-layer frequency-selective surfaces (FSSs) radome that is integrated on the radiation surface of a planar slotted waveguide antenna. The use of FSS radome results in a significant performance improvement of the planar slotted antenna. Experimental results are presented and compared to simulations by an electromagnetic simulator, and they demonstrated that the radar cross section (RCS) properties of the antenna covered by FSS radome can be significantly improved. Moreover, the presented FSS radome also exhibits good transmission characteristics such as wide bandwidth at the operating frequency 9.5 GHz.
