Hyperthermia has been used as one of the therapies for cancer treatment since the early 1970s. This condition is reached when temperature of a cell (or larger mass) is elevated to 43C, about 6 degrees above body temperature, causing the destruction of the mass. With fewer complications than chemotherapy and radiation this thermotherapy has been used as an assisting therapy in conjunction with chemo or radiation therapies. Because of nanotechnology and its medical applications, there have been many recent developments in making hyperthermia more effective in treatment of many forms of cancers.
