The ALARA Principle ensures that the total effective dose equivalent is minimized subject to economic and social factors. Effective ALARA programs must include the participation of all facility work-groups, management support teamwork, and strong leadership. The development and sustainability of effective ALARA programs require the establishment and monitoring of goals, rewarding the successful achievement of those goals, and incorporating lessons learned from tasks that fail to meet their goals.
