Poster summary
- This study investigates air quality near Thessaloniki Airport by measuring particles during take-offs and landings in two different seasons, November (cold) and May (warm). Measurements, conducted 200 meters from the runway, included particle mass, number, size distribution, and nanoparticle concentration. Collected nanoparticles underwent chemical analysis for polyaromatic hydrocarbons and metals. Additionally, Air-Liquid Interface (ALI) tests with human lung cells were performed to assess the toxicological effects, revealing decreased cell viability and increased cytokine release. The study enhances our understanding of airport-related air pollution and its potential health impacts.
