Aims and Scope

An International Journal Devoted to Catalytic Science and its Applications

Applied Catalysis A: General publishes original papers and reviews on all aspects of catalysis of basic and practical interest to chemical scientists in both industrial and academic fields. Papers that focus on advances in catalysis science, especially those that have potential practical implications, by exploring new concepts or new approaches to catalytic processes and materials resulting in new understanding of catalytic phenomena are most welcome.

Papers that do not focus on catalytic phenomena and those that report results of a thorough study or optimization of systems or processes that are well understood, widely studied, or minor variations of known ones are strongly discouraged. In their submission, authors are required to include a "Justification for Publication" section comprising a statement detailing the fit of the manuscript to the scope of the journal. Submissions made without the inclusion of such a justification will be rejected without review.

When preparing an article for submission, it is important that the authors describe their work succinctly in the context of any related published work emphasizing the novel contributions made. Simply reporting new catalyst compositions without delivering associated new insights in catalytic science will be insufficient for publication.

On December 10, 2021, the manuscript was transferred from Applied Catalysis B to Transfer. On December 13, it was under review, but after waiting for 3 months without any results, an email was sent on March 13, 2022, to inquire about the status. The response mentioned that the three invited reviewers did not reply. The wait continued, but the attitude of the response was good. Unexpectedly, on March 15, the reviewer's comments were directly received, indicating that on March 14, alternative reviewers were urgently sought for the evaluation. Then, there were 2 weeks for revisions. On April 2, the revised manuscript was submitted back, and on April 1, a minor issue was raised, although it was already addressed in the text, the reviewers did not notice it. On April 3, it was advised to make the revisions in future revisions. Finally, on April 8, the acceptance was received. The delay of three months may have been caused by the overseas pandemic situation. Overall, the attitude of the editorial office was good, and the speed on the editor's side was quite fast. Therefore, if the waiting time is too long, it is advisable to inquire via email, as it should help to resolve the issue quickly.

Just to add, it was submitted on 11.26, sent for review on 12.06, updated for review on 12.21, received feedback on 1.21, made minor revisions on 1.28. There were a total of 11 comments from the two reviewers, all of which were minor and did not require much attention (asking for a certain parameter value, suggesting additional method information, supporting information for a specific figure, questioning if a certain number was written incorrectly by the author (which it indeed was)). All comments were well addressed. It was re-submitted on 2.6 and accepted on 2.28. Overall, it was a normal pace, not fast, as there was a wait during a foreign holiday. It is clear that both the editor and reviewers only started working on it close to the deadline. The quality of the article was clearly high, but unfortunately, it was rejected by the editor in the first round of submissions to the prestigious journal. Having a background is really important. What a pity...
