Aims and Scope

This international journal covers the application of control theory, operations research, computer science and engineering principles to the solution of process control problems. In addition to the traditional chemical processing and manufacturing applications, the scope of process control problems involves a wide range of applications that includes energy processes, nano-technology, systems biology, bio-medical engineering, pharmaceutical processing technology, energy storage and conversion, smart grid, and data analytics among others.

Papers on the theory in these areas will also be accepted provided the theoretical contribution is aimed at the application and the development of process control techniques.

Topics covered include:

• Control applications• Process monitoring• Plant-wide control• Process control systems• Control techniques and algorithms• Process modelling and simulation• Design methods

Advanced design methods exclude well established and widely studied traditional design techniques such as PID tuning and its many variants. Applications in fields such as control of automotive engines, machinery and robotics are not deemed suitable unless a clear motivation for the relevance to process control is provided.

The main model predictive control algorithm I worked on. Previously, this paper was rejected after being reviewed by CEP. Later, it was directly rejected by three other journals. Finally, it was submitted to JPC on August 1, 2022. It was under review around August 15. After three months, no reviewers were invited. In early November, I reminded the editor and reviewers were invited in mid-November. The major revisions were returned on January 6, 2023. Except for a request to add experimental simulation, there were no other difficulties. After making the revisions for a week, I submitted it again. Both reviewers were satisfied with the modifications, and it was accepted for publication in early March. This paper took a year to be published, and I did it all by myself. My advisor took the first authorship with just one sentence. The review process was slow, but the journal is considered decent.

Posted on March 25th, rejected on July 22nd. Three reviewers provided their opinions, which were fair and balanced, with both positive and negative feedback. None of the reviewers expressed clear opinions, but the editor directly rejected it. It would have been better if they had suggested a major revision, perhaps there were too many submissions. Personally, I feel that the review process is a bit slow. This is just for reference, so everyone else, keep up the good work!
